Why the stories in your head matter

Have you ever experienced a moment when a sudden realization shattered a deeply rooted belief you held, resulting in a complete shift in perspective regarding something or someone?

It has happened to all of us at some point in life. Recently, I discovered a story I had been telling myself about my own capabilities.

This story centred around the expectations and capabilities I had of myself  around a project I was offered, it wasn’t something I had a lot of experience in but something I really wanted to get into .. what happened was that I immediately went to place in my head and started  questioning myself and running the story of “I’m’ not smart enough” sound familiar? And so unintentionally preventing myself from realizing just what I was capable off.. However, once I realised the narrative, I was then able to change the way I viewed myself and what I believed I could achieve, which completely altered my perception.

So, , I trust this will resonate deeply with you. As someone who has worked with numerous clients striving to achieve their goals, I've noticed that when they are finding themselves lacking confidence or feeling stuck in any area of their life... the common denominator is usually the stories they tell themselves. It has become evident that most people, including myself, are often unaware of these stories until they manifest in our minds during specific situations.

The problem is with each negative thought, we are unknowingly reinforcing these beliefs within ourselves. Therefore, it’s crucial to recognize the power of our narratives and take control of them and that’s why I’m sharing  4 critical keys and insights on how to rewrite them to help you unlock your true potential.

  1. The Importance of Self-Awareness: Becoming aware of the stories you tell yourself daily is a vital step in your personal growth journey. Consider this: when you harbor hesitations and uncertainty about what is possible for you, your self-image will be constructed from those stories that you are repeatedly tell yourself,  it is crucial to examine your unconscious self-image how you see yourself ... The more you perpetuate these narratives, the more you validate your own diminished sense of self, often without even realizing it.

  2. The Power of Unconscious Inference: When you say phrases like "I'm not good at this" or "I'm not smart enough," you are actually referring to your identity—the one you have taken for granted as the real you  based on these stories. Understanding this is pivotal: your unconscious mind operates through inference. In other words, if something looks and behaves like a certain thing, your mind deduces that it must be that thing. Your unconscious mind thrives on repetition, embracing and reinforcing your thoughts. Consequently, the more you replay those old stories, the more you embody that identity.

  3. Becoming a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: At this point, you have unwittingly become a self-fulfilling prophecy. By internalizing these stories and accepting them as your truth, you have developed beliefs that dictate your actions and shape your life. However, it is crucial to recognize that we are not merely defined by our stories; we are defined by the choices we make. If you find yourself lacking what you desire in life, it is time to scrutinize the narratives you have constructed and consciously choose to rewrite them. You must step up and claim what you truly deserve.

  4. Taking Action: Rewriting Your Stories: To begin this transformative process, I encourage you to carry a small notepad and pen with you for just one day. Jot down each instance when you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself. You will be surprised by the frequency and impact of your self-talk. This simple exercise will quickly uncover the factors that are holding you back from achieving your goals and dreams.

Remember, the stories we tell ourselves have immense power. They shape our perceptions, beliefs, and ultimately our potential. Begin taking control of these narratives and consciously rewriting them and start your very own transformative journey toward self-empowerment and fulfillment.

NOW is the time to embrace the narratives that serve you and discard the ones that hinder your progress.
